'Sweet Superior', from 'Dischord No. 101', might be my favorite Bluetip song, precisely because it combines outstanding lyrics with unusually good music. It starts out with a slow bass intro, which turns without warning into a riff that's slightly slower than Bluetip's average speed and is composed of ominous-sounding chord progressions. 'Dischord No. 101' is probably the strongest release to come out of Dischord's late 1990s catalogue. But while SHUDDER TO THINK and JAWBOX left Dischord to go onto major labels, BLUETIP never took off, though they very well could have; they're just as good as those two bands, and far superior to most of the stuff Dischord was releasing at the. Bluetip was a rock band from Washington, D.C. It was formed in 1995 by ex-members of Swiz, and released four albums, an EP, and a number of singles before splitting up in January 2002. Bluetip's music is a fairly accessible brand of ' post-hardcore' punk rock, but without the bleak introspection of many of their Dischord labelmates.
