Windows Update Minitool 2018

WUMT Wrapper Script is used to launch and disable Windows Updates until you rerun it avoiding unwanted reboots. The script first checks if the OS is older than Windows 10 and if so it bypasses the Windows 10 'Update Hijacker disable' portion of the script. This script creates a smart Windows Defender Update task 'WDU' that updates Windows Defender if it's running/enabled and doesn't update it if it's not running/disabled. It then auto-elevates, uninstalls and removes the Windows 10 Update Assistant, disables other 'Update Hijackers' such as remsh, osrss, usoclient, waasmedic(svc), SIH and makes sure the Windows Update service is running. It then runs the correct version (x86 or x64) of Windows Update MiniTool in 'auto-search for updates' mode. After you close Windows Update MiniTool, it stops and disables the Windows Update service, and it won't run again until you run WUMT Wrapper Script next time. With the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition, Microsoft has once again removed Group Policies and registry tweaks on Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Home to protect Windows Updates from being disabled, among other things.

As you're well aware, Windows Updates are important so this script, and the Windows Update MiniTool should be used by advanced users.Recently, starting around Windows 10 arbitrarily starts the windows update service even when disabled, so the author has incorporated to rectify that particular scenario. This is distributed as text that you place in Notepad and save as a.cmd. Then you need Windows Updates in the same folder.

Windows Update MiniTool – Main Features. One of them is that it is one of the first update-tools that work effectively on Windows 10 systems. As you may know, there is a method to disable the Windows Update Service or set it to manual in Windows 10 and it might just work perfectly in combination with this little program.

We have done all of this for you, so all you need to do is download WUMT Wrapper Script.zip, extract to a folder and run Windows Update MiniTool.cmd as needed.WUMT Wrapper Script includes an installer and-Ed-PS: thanks to Dalchina for suggesting that I retitle this thread to make the content easier to identify and find. (How do you enable them?)I reckon you'd just run WUMT without launching via the script and make your desired changes.EDIT: That doesn't work. Even a complete reset of WU components will not re-enable Windows Update Service. I know that because I've just needed to manually install an update from.msu file.Tried wusa.exe 'FullPathToUpdate.msu' and Dism and both failed because there is no way to start windows update service without WUMT up and running.

WU service needs to be running after reboot to complete the install and as soon as WUMT exits it disables the service.Anyway it's working now. Yeah I started to use this as soon as windows started to annoy me with FCU. Works like a charm, WUB just disables every update until the script disables it, then runs WUMT, and runs WUB again after closing WUMT.

Being able to select the updates manually and not have any unless picking them myself feels good. This is exactly what I need to do for a computer I'm supporting now, block an upgrade that keeps trying to install at every startup and failing. Looking at all the tools in the WUMT Wrapper folder, do I run WUMT, hide the undesired update then just run WB (need Defender to update, though) or what is the desired order of running the command scripts? Run Wrapper, then wumt then WUB? What's the diff between running Wrapper a 2nd time to reverse and 'uninstall Wrapper script? Make your choices and exit. There will be no update checks until you run the script.

RE: Windows Defender. I don't use it so can't comment.RE: Failing update. Before running WUMT you probably need to reset WU:.

Disconnect the computer from the Internet (important) so Windows Update cannot automatically update. Prefer to switch off router.

Stop Windows Update Service. If it won't stop switch off router and reboot with no connection and check that it stopped. Run the script here (right click and run as administrator) choosing option 11 then reboot when finished. Keep router off.

After that you can run WUMT Wrapper Script for additional control. ' There will be no update checks until you run the script. RE: Windows Defender. I don't use it so can't comment.' When I run the Wrapper script, I can check Y to enable Defender and Store updates. That seems to work fine.'

RE: Failing update. Before running WUMT you probably need to reset WU'We ran WU troubleshooter and all issues were fixed. Ran disable WU but it tried again at shutdown and restart so the Task Scheduler must be triggered. I added your Reset WU Agent script to the toolbox.

I'll try hiding the failed update with WUMT first and restart to see if it tries to install and fail again before trying this. Will post feedback after we try tomorrow. Thanks again.

OK so do I just run it as a stand alone program or do I set it to run at startup or what? Does it automatically replace Windows Update when run? If it doesn’t then it’s just redundant. Sure, it has a little more control, but control of what?

If it replaces Windows Update fine, but there’s nothing to say how to make it the sole updating agent. If it doesn’t, well that’s just a mess now isn’t it?Just telling how to run the tool is not sufficient, you must also explain how it affects the built-in Windows Update.humblux says.
